One of us bought a gold bar — not as a collector, just as savings. It went into a safe and stayed there. Every time the safe opened, the same thought came back: why does wearing something this beautiful have to destroy it?
Our story
We don't make jewellery.
Jewellery melts gold down, reshapes it, and marks up the price. We keep it whole — visible, wearable, and still worth exactly what it weighs.

01 · Origin
It started with a bar in a safe.

Untouched
Nothing on the market left the bar alone. Jewellery melts it down. Pendant frames chew the edges. Everything else hides the gold behind metal.

Unhidden
So we stopped shopping and started building. Bars made it possible: standard formats, assayed weights, thousands of them identical — so a capsule can be machined to fit one exactly, with nothing pressing on the metal. Made to be held, and as it turns out, made to be seated. The bar goes in whole. It comes out whole. And you do the seating yourself. Your gold never leaves your house. We only ever ship the capsule.

02 · The founders
Two of us. That's the whole company.
Different characters, different skills. Same instinct: if something is valuable, you don't hide it — you frame it.
Marin — Founder
I started Assay Atelier from a simple frustration: owning something beautiful that spent almost all of its life stored away.
I developed the original concept and worked through the physical system — from the first oversized prototypes to the modular capsule you see today.
Ghena — Co-founder
I built the digital side of Assay Atelier — shaping how the product is discovered, understood and experienced online.
From the platform and compatibility experience to the infrastructure behind it, my focus has been making the physical and digital sides feel like one system.
One of us drew it. The other had to explain it. Neither of us saw a pendant.

03 · Principles
Three rules. No exceptions.
Functional honesty
The gold stays exactly as you bought it: recognisable, measurable, tradable. We don't alter what you own. We protect it.
Transparency
If a part can be transparent, it is. You can see the bar, the seat it rests in, and exactly how it's held. The only opaque parts are the three steel pins.
Value clarity
You buy the capsule, not the gold. You supply the bar, you decide what it's worth, and nothing we sell inflates it.
04 · Prototypes
Version one was a brick.
Too thick. Too heavy. Too complicated. Then a bar sat inside the polycarbonate — untouched, fully visible — and everything clicked. Every millimetre since follows one rule: the gold stays untouched.

Thinner, lighter — but the frame still covered part of the bar.

05 · Philosophy
Two stories in every piece.
The gold had a life before you. It was mined, assayed, stamped, saved. Now you're adding to it. Every capsule carries two stories — the bar's and yours — and our job is to make sure neither one is ever melted down into the other.
The same capsule and the same three pins go into everything we make: a watch strap, a bracelet, a necklace, a pair of earrings. One bar per capsule. Nothing else earns a place unless it follows the same rule.
